I'm moving from Baltimore to Boston and taking my two-year-old corn snake with me. I've worked with herps for awhile and am used to moving snakes short distances, like half-hour drives and such.... but what's the best way to transport a snake on an 8-hour drive?! Any help would be much appreciated.

get a pet kennel, get a good snake bag.

Since I am assuming you are driving then your car will be climate controlled. All you need to do is line the kennel with soft towels to protect against sudden stops, and to absorb any waste liquid which issues from said snake. Then place snake in appropriate sized snake bag, a pillowcase can work as well, as long as you do not allow the snake too much room to move around in. Just enough to slither in a coil hither and yon. place snake in pet carrier and shut door. For bathroom stops: If the temperature is extremely hot, then just take carrier inside with you. I have done this, and no one says anything. Good luck!

      I live in Boston!! Welcome!!

I recommend one of this duffle bag type doggie carriers. They have side panel that can has small holes that are breathable and if you get them for a small dog, they will fit your snake in nice and comfy.....and it will also prevent overheating and underheating...

Just remember, if you get a soft duffel bag, it will be soaked in snake urine and that is a smell like no other, and it can leak onto your seat. You will want to get a hard case to prevent it from getting onto your car.

          Thanks, everyone!

I went the pillowcase-and-hard-case route, and it worked out well. He's still kind of a baby (coming up on 2 years now) and I couldn't bear to give him away. He's nicely settled in up here.
