OK, Rachel Ray was on Letterman the other night, talking about the foods she prepared for the astronauts that was then freeze-dried or dehydrated and sent into space. Got me thinking about assorted emergency situations and feeding my pets.

Dex eats frozen/thawed mice like a trooper. What about freeze-dried or dehydrated (not sure about the difference as far as storage and/or reconstituting). If he will eat a formerly frozen mouse that has been thawed and heated, what about a dried up mouse that has been rehydrated and then heated? Wouldn't that work about the same? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

When I typed Freeze Dried Mice for Snakes on GOOGLE, it came back with a lot of hits, but they all seemed to actually be referring to frozen/thawed mice. I already feed those. I'm thinking about a situation where I don't have regular access to a freezer and/or live mice. My current apartment is in a flood zone and we were evacuated last summer. At the time, I was lucky to be able to stay with a friend who lived out of the flood zone so my cats, my turtle and I stayed with her. But she's since moved. And I won't leave my pets behind or at an animal shelter with people they don't know and who don't know them. So that means that the lot of us might be camping out if there is another flood situation.

Plus, having grown up in the country, I like to be somewhat prepared for emergency situations. So if anyone has any information, suggestoins, advice, or ideas, I would greatly appreciate hearing them. THanks
