Literally!
A friend of mine asked me to come over to help him with his snake...Well he didn't tell me with what till I got there...The snake is a baby red tail...cute as a button. My friend used box tape to tape the inside of saran wrap to the cover of the tank to help keep humidity in....Well the snake decided to climb up and got stock on the box tape....
I took the snake home with me...I soaked him in warm water hoping it would loosen the tape up a bit, but it did not. The snake seems fine, the tape is more of an annoyance to him I think than anything else. Its not impeding is his movement or ability to eat, but I know its not okay... Whenever I try to get the tape off near his head he bites me (hard!)......
What can I do? I know my friend didnt mean it, he thought he was doing a good thing, but it was a stupid mistake....
Any clue how to get the tape off?? Or better yet, how to get it off without getting bitten every time I try? There are no herp docs in my area so its all me....

Re: Getting Tape off A Snake....
Sun, October 21, 2007 - 1:24 PMOlive oil will break down the chemical bond in the glue. It is time consuming, but if you do it patches, then you should be fine. -

Re: Getting Tape off A Snake....
Sun, October 21, 2007 - 1:39 PMwell, you can use a Q-Tip to rub the oil back and forth on the tape at the edges. You want to get some of the edges to come loose so you can get more oil underneath. Do it in sections because you don't want an oiled up snake! Eventually, the snake will shed this off, but if there is so much that you fear injury, then this is a safe route. I would have a friend sit with me for a half hour or so every night and Q-Tip and gently lift a corner with tweezers. Imagine having to take off a band-aid that had bonded with a scab. You don't want to pull it off in one pull or you will cause injury, so you moisten, gently tug, moisten, gently tug. Remember, the oil will break down the topmost molecular layer of adhesive, you have to rub a little to hasten the change lower than the top level.
